How to Peel a Head of Garlic in Less Than 10 Seconds from SAVEUR.com on Vimeo.
I had to peel 20 bulbs of garlic for my Christmas cooking this year. I looked up hacks online and tried this one. IT WORKS!!!! Here’s a few tips to make it even easier:
- Do NOT hit it with your hand. It hurts. Smash it with the bottom of your metal bowl. You might have to hit it twice. Do it in your sink – the garlic cloves will explode EVERYWHERE – at least they’ll all be in your sink (instead of them flying around your kitchen).
- Only put one head of garlic in the shaker at one time. I tried to do a couple at once to save time…NOT. You need the extra room for the cloves to rattle around to get cleaned off.
- Stuff will fly everywhere, it will be really LOUD and very satisfying. Shake the dickens out of it. THE DICKENS. He’s serious.
- If you don’t have these bowls, the cheapest place to get them is a restaurant supply store. I got mine at AceMart in Dallas.
This tip is a GAME CHANGER. Have fun!
